Established in 1999, Ambient Information Systems (AIS) produces exceptional, adventurous films that expand narrative form and reframe cinematic convention for the networked age. It delivers projects that not only innovate in process and material, but also are compassionate in their perspective and bold in political imagination.

AIS embraces experiment and uncertainty as a locus of creativity, considering it essential to project development, and fosters synergies through artist residencies, participatory workshops, interdisciplinary collaboration and partnership across sectors.

Expanding the viewing environment is core to its mission. AIS has projected works far beyond the usual screening contexts – into urban public space using electronic billboards, in remote rural locations via mobile open-air cinemas, and incorporated into school and higher educational curricula. Storytelling happens in unexpected moments and places.
